'Deception' doomed from the start

It was about a month ago when I first learned of NBC's new suspense series 'Deception' debuting this season. Sadly enough, all possibilities of my further interest and potential viewership vanished when I learned who is playing the lead role. Though I've refused to tune in for the show's first two episodes, I can effortlessly make the case that this embarrassingly mistaken attempt at replicating ABC's hit series 'Revenge' will only be as effective as it's lead role. That being said, Meghan Good is not only an inappropriate candidate for this role, she could single handedly deceive gullible viewers that this show will even be renewed for a second season.

Unless I'm merely oblivious to the recent accomplishments of Meghan Good, I have no reason to believe that she will deliver this detective Joanna Locasto in anything more than mediocre fashion. Don't get me wrong, I applaud the network for making such an attempt. With ABC enjoying great success from two female-led suspense series; 'Scandal' (Kerry Washington) and 'Revenge' (Emily VanCamp), this was NBC's seemingly eager shot in the dark at rivaling those shows. Unfortunately, the plot for 'Deception' comes off as too desperate in that regard. Joanna Locasto is a detective who decides to infiltrate an obscenely wealthy and potentially corrupt family to avenge a dead friend. There should be enough tweaks in the plot to differentiate it, but on surface level, you're looking at the fraternal twin of 'Revenge'. I don't think Meghan Good is professionally up to the challenge of taking a major network television series to the promised land, or even a second season, with such established and stiff competition. After all, this isn't Waist Deep or a 50 Cent music video.
