'Clapping for the Wrong Reasons' [director's cut]
Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) recently released the director's cut of his short film 'Clapping for the Wrong Reasons'. The 24-minute clip serves as a cinematic dedication to the loss of his friend and audio engineer Ruben Rivera earlier this year. As an accomplished writer, musician, and actor, the creative aura of Donald Glover is mysteriously displayed. On the surface, we're basically shown a typical day at Glover's hilltop mansion home; there's anonymity, staggered scenes of candid conversations seemingly unrelated, and appearances from Trinidad Jame$, Chance the Rapper, Danielle Fishel (Topanga from 'Boy Meets World'), and others. Amongst the quite chaos are quick looks at Glover's musical process, most notably the sit-down acapella freestyle in the latter half of the film. I loved the desired mood of this whole project.
