HBO officially and surprisingly announced earlier today that the seventh season of their coveted vampire series 'True Blood' will indeed be it's last. After wrapping up the condensed ten-episode season last month, network president Michael Lombardo expressed optimism about the show's sixth season under new show runner Brian Buckner, but promises "a fantastic final chapter of a fantastic show".
This news should not come as too much shock if you consider where season six took us. The crux of 'True Blood' lies in vampire-human relations, which is expected to be back on the forefront with the war now over. The Warlow situation did not pan out as I anticipated, but it seemingly (and finally) brought Sookie to Alcide as a love interest. The new and impending threat will be the Hepatitis V-infected vampires, which again, will make the human-vampire complex more significant. As we saw, Bill and Sam have begun campaigning for humans to volunteer as food for vampires in exchange for protection. Things will get dicey.
In case you were also wondering, it has in fact been confirmed that Eric Northman is alive and casted for next season, despite our last sight of him 'meeting the sun'. Check that link for more developments on the final season of HBO's 'True Blood' per Screen Crush.
