'Nikita' conclusion prepares for ultimate finale.
"Til' Death Do Us Part"
For three seasons it's been all about Division: the government's underground program of trained assassins, the program that trained Nikita and ultimately became the victim of her personal war. The show runners introduced a challenging dynamic for this third season, assigning Nikita, Michael, Alex, Birkhoff, and the resurrected Ryan Fletcher to head the originally corrupt organization. In their efforts to purify Division they endured many obstacles, such as Amanda, who's psychological torment of Nikita led to two key events down the stretch: the organized mutiny from inside of Division led by a brainwashed Alex, and Nikita's decision to cut off Michael's hand to save his life. What became the ultimate reveal was Amanda's stake in the technology used to replace Michael's hand, and her plan to black male Nikita by assigning one last kill: the President of the United States. You had to know it wouldn't be that simple when the finale began in flash forward mode showing the President dead in front of Nikita. Instead, likely heroes Birkhoff and Alex emerged with a way to negate the lethal technology in Michael's prosthetic hand (by killing, reviving him) and working Nikita through the White House after "the President" killed herself and Amanda's frame job was complete. The finale peaked momentarily when Nikita returned to rescue her supporting cast from annihilation at the hands of "the dirty 30", Division's rogue agents, sent by Amanda. Ultimately this finale succeeded at leaving important questions for what has been confirmed as the fourth and final season of the show. In emotional fashion, with Ellie Goulding's "Hanging On" playing for support, Nikita flees from Michael and the crew seemingly overwhelmed as the suspected fugitive who assassinated the President. So, as viewers prepare for the final season of #Nikita, here are some questions to be asked:
- What is Amanda's plan for the real President?
- How will Nikita's agenda be affected by her choice to go ghost?
- Will Alexandra Udinov be a political figure the next time we see her?
- Are we finished with Owen/Sam?
- Since the show runners only ordered six episodes for the fourth and final season, how will a condensed schedule impact the effectiveness of the final chapter?
My humble and premature prediction: Nikita works solo to protect her friends, finds a way to finally stop Amanda and save the President, achieving her true final mission and her dream of a normal life with Michael. Happy endings for The CW and 'Nikita'.
